Peach Jalapeno Jam, THM E, SF, GF, DF

Sweet, juicy peaches herald the months of August and September. What could be better than a jar of homemade peach jam! Add some jalapenos for a spicy sweet jam and you have a winner!

For quite a number of years, our family had an orchard of 30+ trees. We had several kinds of peaches, apples, pears, and plum trees. There is nothing better than walking through the orchard and picking a tree ripened peach to eat. Since we have moved I need to buy peaches from roadside markets. They are still sweet and juicy, but without the itchiness from picking them.

If you wonder how to use this jam…. here are a few ways I use it. Pair it with Brie or Cream cheese on a cracker or a piece of toast, spread it on chicken or pork pieces before baking/grilling, on toast or sandwiches, ect. I have already mixed peach jam with sugar-free barbecue sauce for a delicious sauce for chicken and pork.

Peach Jalapeno Jam, THM E, SF, GF, DF

  • 8 1-cup jelly jars with lids and rings
  • 5 cups mashed/pureed peaches
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped red bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped jalapenos
  • 3/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 7 teaspoons Calcium water*
  • 1 1/4 cups Gentle Sweet
  • 6 teaspoons Pomona’s Pectin
  • Wash jars well with hot soapy water, Rinse thoroughly and allow to drain on a rack. In a 4 quart pot, bring peppers and vinegar to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Add pureed peaches and calcium water to pepper mixture. Whisk well. In a separate bowl, combine Gentle Sweet and Pectin. Set aside. Bring the peach/pepper mixture to a rolling boiling over high heat, stirring continuously. Whisk in Gentle Sweet/pectin mixture. Stir well. Bring jam to a boil while stirring continuously. Remove jam from heat. Laden into jars leaving a 1/4 inch head space. Wipe the top of the jars clean. Add lids and rings, tightening only fingertip tight. Place jars into a water-bath canner with water covering the jars by 1 inch. Bring to a boil and simmer 10 minutes. Turn off the heat. Allow the jars to rest in the water for 10 minutes. Remove to a rack to cool for 24 hours. Remove rings and check for seal. Store in a cool pantry or basement. 8 pints.

Here is the colorful melody of peppers I cooked in vinegar. I used red peppers to add color with the jalapenos. You may ask why vinegar is added. Peppers ar a low acid food and when you add them to jam you will need vinegar to safely can them.

Here the peaches and peppers are mixed together. I am going to bring this mixture to a boil before adding eh sweetener/pectin.

When you water-bath the jam you want the water covering the jars by an inch. Here I am water-bathing strawberry jam.

I love this rack/tray I have. I use it when I can because it allows the air to flow around the jars to cool them.

This is the style Vitamix that I have. It was a learning curve on how to use it compared to a Ninja but I love it. It makes the smoothest smoothies and tomato sauce.

If you are doing a lot of canning, it would be wise to invest in a stainless steel canner. They will last a lifetime. The black and white specked Granite Ware canners chip and leak after a while.

I have bought mostly Ball Canning Jars to use. They can be reuse multiple times and last for years.

  1. I just got my pectin and have to figure it out. It says 8 -8 ounce jars, but at the end it says 8 pints. I’m supposed to use 8 ounce jars though, right?
