Have you ever wanted to add a special gourmet touch to a hamburger or sandwich? I have just the item for you, Caramelized Onions? These sweet caramelized onions go great with any burger or even roast beef sandwiches. Try them, you will not be disappointed!

For the above sandwich I used Sprouted Bread, roast beef, cheese, Caramelized Onions, and Creamy Horseradish Sauce. This sandwich is a THM XO, a combination of carbs and fats but so delicious!
Most of you know by now that I am known for my sourdough bread. Every now and then when I am just to busy to bake I buy sprouted bread.
Caramelized Onions, THM S, SF, GF, DF
- 2 tablespoons butter, for dairy free use coconut oil or olive oil
- 2 large Sweet Onions, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 -2 tablespoons Brown Sugar Sweetener Substitute*
- 1/2 teaspoon mineral salt
- In a heavy skillet (I use cast iron), melt butter over low heat. When butter is completely melted, add onions. Adjust the heat to medium-low. Allow the onions to cook in the butter for 10 minutes, stirring once. Add the Brown Sugar Sweetener Substitute and salt. Allow onions to cook over medium/low heat another 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Serve as a topping for burgers or sandwiches. 8 servings

I thinly sliced the onions with a knife. I love Sweet Onions and always have some in my pantry.
