Air Fried Dill Pickles THM FP, Keto, with Gluten-free option

Fried Dill Pickles—who doesn’t like this southern specialty! These pickles are air fried to lessen the calorie load and they are still delicious! I used my home canned Dill Pickles Spears but you can also use bought pickles.

Fried Pickles were popularized in the 1960’s in a restaurant in Arkansas. They were traditionally served with ketchup but today’s choice of condiment is ranch. The sauce I used to dip these in was a low-fat spicy yogurt/ketchup sauce. This was to keep my meal in a Fuel Pull setting for the THM way of eating.

I used unfed sourdough starter in this recipe along with egg whites for the egg wash before the breading. The taste of the starter is indistinguishable but helps the breading to stick. If you need a Gluten Free Option or you do not have sourdough starter you can use 1 whole egg blended well to replace the egg and sourdough starter.

I do have a recipe for Fried Pickles in Around the Family Table Cookbook that are fried in hot oil. You will find it on page 284 in the section Side Dishes.

Garlic Dill Pickles

I used my home canned Dill Pickles for this recipe. I had canned a few quarts without any sweetener.

I love the Ninja Foodie Air Fryer that I have. It does wonderful in making these fried pickles. You may need to adjust the time depending on which brand of air fryer you have.
