Cranberry Relish is an old-time recipe. My grandmother would make it for our Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. The tartness of the cranberries and the sweetness apples and oranges meld together to make a wonderful relish.

Just a few interesting facts about Cranberries–they have amazing health benefits if you can get past their sour taste. Cranberries are loaded a with antioxidants, rich in iron, calcium, and potassium. They are one of the few native fruits of North America. The 5 states known for growing cranberries are: Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington. 905 million pounds of cranberries were produced in 2018 in United States. Only 5% of cranberries are sold fresh. The rest processed into sauces and juices. One cup of cranberries has only 50 calories.

I love to buy a number of packages of cranberries to freeze. They freeze so well and keep a long time. So stock your freezer when you can find them in the stores.

These three fruits are ground together to make this relish. The old recipe told you to grind the entire orange, peel and all. I often peel the one and grind one with the peel. It is not so bitter with one peeled.

I use a Vitamix Food Processor to grind the fruit fine. That is the characteristic of the relish….grind it fine.

This is a close up of the ground fruit. It is very fine and I love to chop it all together instead of doing each fruit individually.
This relish looks so much like Christmas with its bright red color. We love to eat it with all kinds of meats.

It is my favorite dessert for special occasions. Here is a simple but delicious Cranberry Cheesecake for your Thanksgiving dinner and best of all it is doesn’t need to be baked! No one will realize that it is sugar-free and low-carb unless you tell them. Tart cranberries in a creamy cheesecake is a winner every time I serve it.

Cranberry Relish, THM E, Sugar-free, Gluten-free
- 4 cups cranberries
- 2 apples
- 2 oranges
- 1/2-3/4 cup Gentle Sweet
- Grinding: In a food processor until fine. Pour the ground fruit into a mixing bowl. Add the Gentle Sweet. Stir well. Refrigerate for 6 hours to meld flavors.
- The relish will look a light pink at first but it will darken in color after being refrigerated.
- You can freeze the relish for 2-3 months. Thaw and serve.
