Feeding a family can be very costly, how well I know. It is almost unbelievable how quickly food can vanish from the cupboards and fridge. Here are a few tips that I implement to save on groceries and household items.
Horse Progress Days are now a memory! Our family set up a vender stand in the Homemaker’s building. I had two sessions, Friday and Saturday where I showed ladies how to feed/care for your starter, mix bread dough, do stretch and folds, shape and slash bread, and we finished with a crusty loaf of bread that we got out of the oven. I used the cast iron baker pictured below. I love it! We then allowed the ladies to sample the loaf at our vender stand after it had cooled.
Horse Progress Days will be held at Mt Hope Auction Grounds in Mt Hope, Ohio. This event will be held on July 2nd and 3rd, 2021. I have been asked to have a Sourdough Demonstration in the Homemaker’s Building. On Friday the session will be at 9:45am and on Saturday it will be at 11:00am. Each person who attends a session will receive a small packet of sourdough starter.
I will take you through the steps of caring for your starter and showing how to mix bread dough. We will have cookbooks along that you can purchase. We look forward to seeing you there!
There are five different sessions for the ladies to attend while the men are busy with all the horse related items.
Potato Salad, a potluck staple and comfort food is still an old time favorite. This recipe use small yellow or red waxy potatoes which gives this salad the perfect texture and flavor. This type of potato can be used in recipes without peeling. That in itself is a winner!

As a young girl I made my first doll clothes before I went to school. I took a scrap of fabric and hand sewed a cap for my doll. I still remember what the fabric looked like and ho I made it. By my teens I was making all of my dresses and loved to sew. For quite a number of years after I was married I pieced quilts, pillows, ect for my parent’s store, Snyder’s Furniture. In the more recent years I have been custom tailoring men’s suit coats along with my regular sewing.
