Many times I have been asked what are my favorite items are for sourdough baking! These items are not a must but since I am asked so many times I have put this list togther.

Before you panic and say I can’t afford all these tools, you don’t need to have them all. These are just a few of my favorites. There are 4 basic items I use every day in baking, Danish Dough Whisk measuring cups, Parchment paper sheets, and a covered clay baker.

Tools to feed your starter!

I love my Danish Dough Whisk to mix my starter. This whisk is very sturdy, washes up well, and makes mixing your starter a breeze.

This Batter Bowl is my favorite contianer to use for my starter. It has measurements on the sides so you can see at a glance how much starter you have and how much you need to feed it. You can purchase this batter bowl from Pampered Chef, item #2431.

These measuring cups for wet ingredients are so easy to read and I use them all the times. They are from Pampered Chef, #100193

This set of dry measuring cups comes with measuring teaspoons and tablespoons. Since these are stainless steel, they will last a lifetime.

If you choose to use a digital scale to weigh your water, flour, and starter, this scales is a great one. It will weigh pounds and grams.
Mixing sourdough recipes
You need very few items to mix bread. When I mix artisan bread, I use a glass bowl and a Danish Dough Whisk.

I love to use glass bowls with lids when mix artisan breads. The lid will keep the dough from getting a dry crust. I find that sourdough dough dries out much quicker than regular yeast dough.

I love my Danish Dough Whisk to mix my starter and bread dough. This whisk is very sturdy, washes up well, and makes mixing your dough a breeze.

My bench knife is my extra hand…I love it. You can use it to cut the dough, scrape the counter, and so much more.

If you are making a large batch of bread and want to use a mixer, the Bosch Mixer is the best mixer to use. I have one for at least 20 years and it still works well.

I guess I do need to tell you all, I do have two mixers. I have Kitchen Aid Mixer that was given to me 34 years ago. I have had it serviced twice already, but it still works well. This is my favorite mixer for pie crusts, biscuits, 1-2 loaves of bread, cookies, and crackers. But when I want to make 5 loaves of bread I will use my Bosch Mixer.

Brotforms are a nice way to shape loaves. These can be dusted with rice flour which makes a nice design on the bread dough.

This oval banneton works great with the oval clay baker listed below. A bonus, you get a lame with this kit.

Parchment paper sheets are a baker’s friend. I use them to line cooking sheets and I place my artisan loaves on them before I score them. It is easy to lift the paper, loaf and all and place it in a baker.

Most loaves of artisan soudough are scored with a lame to give direction to the oven spring. I love my WireMonkey Lame. The one above is my favorite one.

I love to bake artisan bread in my Clay Baker. This baker bakes a wonderful, crusty, round loaf of bread.

I bought this covered clay baker for long loaves of bread and is has become a favorite to make sandwich slices.

If you love cast iron this Cast Iron Lodge Baker works very well. I can actully put the 3 bakers listed above in my oven all at the same time when I want to bake lots of bread.

It can be difficut to find a good bread knife. I found a Wustof knife in a box of kitchen utensils I was given. I was amazed at how well it cut. My husband bought this Wustof bread knife for my Christmas one year and it is the best knife I have ever had.
